What are the directions from San José Airport (bypassing the ferry):

It’s a toll highway, so you’ll need 2,500 colones (about $5). Get some at the airport.(CEDA means yield.)

Get on the airport access road, across from the terminal. If you rent a car, you’ll probably be shuttled away from the airport towards San Jose as few rental companies have cars at the airport. If you do leave the airport, it’ll be on the Pan-American Highway. You’ll need to head back on it. When you do, stay in the left lane and take the airport exit.

When you’re on the airport access road, follow it until you’re almost all the way to the end. Turn right on the very last road before the turnaround. If you miss it, you’ll loop back towards the airport and can try it again.

Now you’ll be on a frontage/access road that parallels the highway. You’ll come up a hill and join a main road in a small town. Keep going straight for about 3 miles as you wind through towns and neighborhoods. The road eventually makes a long turn to the left. You’ll pass a park with a playground on the left, while another main road forms a T-intersection. Turn right.

Follow this road for about 2 miles until it ends at a traffic circle. Exit the circle to Highway 27 to Orotina and Puntarenas.

Follow the highway to Puntarenas.  After you get to Caldera, you’ll drive along the ocean on a long beach. Continue towards Liberia.

Follow the highway towards Liberia for 2–2.5 hours till you get to Las Juntas. The 1st landmark is a Total gas station on the right. In 5 minutes you’ll see a Delta gas station on the left and a sign reading “PUENTE De la AMISTAD TAIWAN” (Peace bridge from Taiwan.) Turn left here to Nicoya.

PUENTE De la AMISTAD TAIWAN

You’ll cross the bridge in about 15 minutes. Follow this road for another 30 minutes until you get to a T-intersection. Turn left towards Playa Naranjo. You’re now an hour away from Roma del Mar.

After 20-25 minutes on this road, turn left towards Playa Naranjo/Jicaral. (Don’t go straight, you’ll end up in Carmona.) Stay on this road for 20-25 minutes and you’ll get to Jicaral. There’s a church on the right side. It’s 25 minutes from Jicaral to Playa Naranjo.

In Playa Naranjo you’ll reach an intersection with a sign to the left “FERRY”. Continue straight toward Paquera/Playa Tambor. Here you’ll see the sign for Villas Roma del Mar and its supermarket.

The road is dirt. Travel 2-3 minutes, stay to your left and take a slight left turn when you see the signs for Playa Blanca and Villas Roma del Mar on your left.

Follow this road – you’ll pass a small school on the right. In 250 yards you’ll see an entrance with the sign and columns of Roma Del Mar on your left. Take this turn, follow the road as it goes up and after about half a mile you’ll see a bright red building on your right. That’s the Villas Roma del Mar Supermarket and reception. Go into the shop and they’ll give you your keys and show you the way to your villa.

What are the directions from Liberia Airport?

It’s a 2 hour drive south from the airport. Follow the signs for Highway 21 to Santa Cruz and Nicoya.

Right outside of Nicoya you’ll see a large supermarket Maxibodega on the left. This is a large discounter owned by Walmart. We recommend you stop here and get your groceries. When you’ve finished shopping, continue south on Highway 21 to Jicaral/ Playa Naranjo.
