All on half an acre, at Roma del Mar. It’s a beautiful new development consisting of 12 villas, away from the touristy areas but right on the Pacific Coast – with 5 gorgeous beaches just 2 minutes’ walk away.

The weather here is perfect, with temperatures around 80° all year long and only a little humidity.

The luxuriously appointed villa is 3800 ft2 and includes 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms plus a powder room, with a luxurious pool and terraces. The kitchen is indulgent – granite and native wood everywhere, with an icemaker, gas range, and every conceivable appliance (including what they call an “American size” fridge, which means “gigantic.”) Water is filtered and tastes great right out of the tap.

The villa also includes a washing machine, internet, air conditioning in every room and fans  – not to mention in-wall speakers, DVDs and a flat-screen TV.

To get to the villa you’ll fly into San Jose in central Costa Rica, drive an hour and 40 minutes to Playa Naranjo and board the ferry. After an hour and 15 minutes you’ll dock in the terminal, 10 minutes from Roma del Mar. If you like, the property managers can pick you up at the terminal and walk you through the villa.

Or you can fly into Liberia, Costa Rica’s Pacific hub. From there you can either drive 2½ hours to Roma del Mar, or we’ll pick you up for $150 round trip.

You can bank and buy groceries in the town of Jicaral, 20 minutes away. Or get fresh fish and shrimp from the local fishermen.

Activities include boat trips to Isla Tortuga, with its white sand and snorkeling. It wouldn’t be Costa Rica without a canopy tour – which includes horseback riding, ziplines and lunch.

Rent a horse. Get a massage, pedicure or manicure. Or hire a cook/maid/babysitter – all for some incredibly affordable prices.

One more thing: watch out for the monkeys. It seems there are a few in every tree.
